What is Mold?
Molds, black molds, and mildew are fungi. Fungi are not in the plant or animal kingdom, but have their own Fungi Kingdom. Fungi include mushrooms, bread and beer yeasts, and the mold that makes penicillin. Over 200,000 species of mold are estimated to exist.
The most common household molds are Aspeergillus, Cladosporium, Stachybotrys, Penicillium and Alternaria. High humidity and water leaks trigger the growth of mold in buildings. Low humidity then can activate the release of spores and mycotoxins into the air.
What are the Dangers of Mold in Your Home?
- Mold releases millions of microscopic spores into the air, which can trigger serious health problems.
- Mold may cause allergic reactions, including congestion, burning eyes or cough; respiratory problems, such as asthma or infection; headaches, rashes, or memory impairment, especially in children and the elderly.
- Mold eats the matter on which it lives, this means it destroys the structural integrity of walls, wooden beams, insulation and other building materials.
There is nothing worse than suspecting that a stealthy, silent enemy is lurking in your home. If your home smells moldy, if you have present or past water damage, or if you see evidence of mold, you should have your house tested. Let us help you and your family. Air Care Wizard, Inc. takes surface and air samples of mold and sends them to a certified laboratory to verify toxicity level and fungi type.
